Serapi are among the rarest and most sought-after carpets. At the beginning of the 20th century, these carpets were knotted in the mountains of northwestern Persia. Their design is very similar to the Heriz carpet, but the knots are finer and they tend to have large-scale designs. They have soft pastel colors and were a favorite of Americans, who used them especially in federal buildings like the White House. The name comes from the fact that the weavers in the mountains had to take the carpets to the nearest town, which was Serab. This is what people called the carpets, carpets that you can buy in Serapi.
